A simple form of Historical analysis seeks to respond to three basic questions: Who was in charge? Who obeyed? Why? The individual, in general, has not been very fortunate in this scenario. Intellectuals and politicians have always sought to justify it with the boldest forms of Sophistry. As a last resort they have employed force and coercion to achieve their objectives.

The standard of living we enjoy in modern societies is the result of two successive processes: one of creation, and another of destruction. The process of creation is the result of five driving forces. That of destruction, the result of five draining forces. The draining forces act in a subtle, sometimes hidden way. What is visible and what is hidden in this process?
